IN THE NAME OF HUMAN EQUALITY
This list of donors FOR Proposition 8 is out. Being rather useless here in Japan while the Proposition passed, I now feel the need to boycott the businesses that supported it monetarily. Most of them are easy, since they are California-based, but Cotton Buds is going to be a tough one (when I get back to the States).

'Meh' now in the Collins English Dictionary →
I was a bit perplexed at first, but then I saw that “meh” was up against the likes of “huggles” and “frenemy” and was glad “meh” made it through instead.

Time
kxj: “Don’t say you don’t have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.” — H. Jackson Brown Jr. So true. …Actually, statements like this have always bothered me. Our priorities have shifted since those people were at their prime (and...

WHERE DO I BEGIN
Let’s start with Saturday. Saturday’s event was described to me as an “oyster party” at the house of some artist who made stuff out of wood. Being quite fond of shellfish and woodworking, I eagerly agreed to attend. Upon arriving with some people, I found that it was eating oysters, etc. in the barn/workshop of a freaking amazing artist. He had just come back from a show...

For the first time in three months, I am homesick.
It’s as if the whole nation just won the World Series in the US. The fact that so many Americans went out, stood in lines for hours, all the while believing that their vote mattered, and then voted an intelligent black man president… that just fills me with so much hope. How long has it been since Americans actually believed in the democratic process this much? I half fled when I...

The best piece on this election that I’ve read so far… having not read much. The SECOND best piece on this year’s election is this.

Quite the fulfilling job
We’ve had two college interns here for the past month or so. The second one just said her goodbyes at the morning meeting this morning. She started crying before she even spoke. She apparently had a hard time at first (and I’m sure having the desk in the back room didn’t help), but she was obviously very sad to leave at the end. The guy who left before her also choked up during...

London pays £90,000 to give class clowns...
This is very, very disappointing. Reflexologists believe that poking at your feet can actually heal diseases and treat emotional problems (I then ask: why the heck aren’t people having wild mood swings and crazy spasms as they walk on a variety of street conditions?), and the Lambeth Council is giving them money to treat unruly students to a day at the spa. It’s a part of a larger...
