Dear iMovie 08, I hate you.
If only my computer with iMovie 06 wasn’t in CHINA. I’ve heard rumors of someone beating the useful out of iMovie 08, but didn’t REALLY believe it until now. So I don’t have a DV camera, but I’ve got all these AVI files I’ve captured. iMovie 08 makes my life simpler here by totally refusing to import these files so that I don’t have to do any video...

Getting EasyCap to work in Windows XP
What’s an EasyCap? It’s a cheap USB video capture device that is often found being sold on eBay. It is SUPPOSEDLY Mac and Windows compatible, but a LOT of people have trouble getting video and/or sound to work and so it has earned the alternate name of “EasyCrap.” Well, I was not about to let my $25 go to waste, so I had to wrestle this thing into working order. My working...

Consumerist says it best: Everyone has their own personal beliefs regarding human reproduction. However, when it is your job to provide health services to the public, we don’t understand how those beliefs are more important than the customers’.

Wii Homebrew Channel test
As per this helpful install guide, I just installed the Wii Homebrew Channel and took it for a test run (install wiki with the file). The install kit comes with 3 things: an emulator for something I’ve never heard of, Quake, and Tetris. Like the guy in the video said, Quake is the slickest thing on there… I was just never good at this game. Tetris made me want to throw my Wavebird at...

Now what?
The Stevenote the other day wasn’t too exciting for me, so I went and bought my long-awaited upgrade laptop, the 15” Macbook Pro… and an iPod Touch. To protect all of this shiny new tech from this klutz and her klutzy family, I’ve begun to look for cases and stuff for it all. Here’s the shopping list: Silicone keyboard protector, ~$5 from random sellers on eBay....

Ghost whisperer FAIL
James Van Praagh (supposed medium, best-selling author, and producer of Ghost Whisperer) was on my local cable news this morning… and it was awesome. He said the basic stuff about being able to see floaty spirit things since childhood, children being more open to this sort of thing,* and ghosts trying to sabotage the filming of Ghost Whisperer (at least they realize the show sucks). He even...

MacService review
So after getting my computer back from MacService with a shiny new logic board and putting it through its paces for a few days, it’s probably about time for a review of the whole thing. Background: My 12” PowerBook (1.5 GHz) had its VRAM fail on it… which unfortunately meant that the whole logic board (motherboard, to PC users) needed to be replaced. I was fully ready to...
