For Teenagers, Hello Means ‘How About a Hug?’
“It was needless hugging — they are in the hallways before they go to class. It wasn’t a greeting. It was happening all day.”
What the hell. This is ridiculous. Why are people afraid of human contact??
“Parents, who grew up in a generation more likely to use the handshake, the low-five or the high-five, are often baffled by the close physical contact.” NYT gets +1000 for mentioning the low-five.
I am feeling the generation gap already: no one hugged after I graduated from elementary school. Kids wanted to be badasses, untouchable, emo, whatever. I’m glad that the nice, friendly kid is in now.
