How to find things

I just found this link while browsing Lifehacker. It caught my attention because I had been trying to locate my battery recharger for WEEKS with little success (my Wiimotes need recharging!!). Unfortunately, it turns out that this “book” is just an exploded (as in, unnecessarily verbose and redundant) list that I will reproduce here using the magic of brevity:

  1. Don’t search randomly, idiot.
  2. Sit down and give yourself a pep talk, because knowing you have a problem suck at organization is the first step.
  3. Carefully look around the area where the item is SUPPOSED to be. It’s probably still near there and you’re just unobservant.
  4. Think REALLY HARD about when you last used the item and where you were. Trace your steps if necessary.
  5. Search systematically and thoroughly so you do not have to search the same area twice.
  6. Ask someone else if they’ve seen what you’re looking for.
  7. If you have not found what you want by now, forget about it and move on.

I’ve cut the 12-13 step system down to 7 steps by editing out redundant points, but it’s basically that. Now you don’t have to read a 67-page PDF!!

Unfortunately, this did NOT help me locate my battery charger. I think it’s time to get a new battery charger.
