The word of the day is “sunemono”
“Sunemono” means (according to my dictionary) “perverse individual, cynic, misanthrope” and I THINK it’s what the teachers around me have taken to calling me. Not that it’s not totally on the mark or anything, but it’s a bit early in our relationship for them to know I’m actually a cynical old man.
I blame this on Hannah Montana (see image two posts ago).
Anyway, I didn’t really mention my welcome party on Friday, so I figure I’ll go over that now (for Kaba).
So big Japanese parties are actually multi-venue party trains. Mine started at a dinner in a hotel, went on to a bar, and finally a hostess club (sort of).
To avoid any scandal if anyone from my school finds this blog, here’s the list-form summary:
Part 1: deeelicious dinner, fun quizzing, poured drinks for everyone, KANPAI!!11
Part 2: bar, KARAOKE, weak as water mixed drinks, someone tell me if within-office relationships are kosher?
Part 3: middle-aged women in fancy dresses poured us drinks that still tasted like water, more karaoke (not sullied by my screeching, this time)
Got home around 3am. It was looooads of fun! Wish some more people could’ve gone, but it seems that my office is full of excellent people so I’m quite happy.
Don’t even mind them thinking knowing I’m a perv.
