My apartment is “haunted”
Heard this from one of the other JETs in the area:
One winter night two or three years ago, my predecessor was sleeping in front of the heater out in the main room (where I’m sitting now), when she woke up in the middle of the night. She thought she saw something run to the back room. When she looked around in the dark, she saw that it was a little boy. On the other side of the room stood a fireman in really old-fashioned gear with serious burns all over, beckoning the boy towards him. My predecessor was much freaked out, but she eventually fell back asleep. A year later, her boyfriend came to live with her and found out that decades ago, there was a really big fire in this area. [Cue Twilight Zone theme song.]
I don’t believe in ghosts and I’ve pulled too many all-nighters to be very afraid of the dark. Unfortunately, I DO believe that I’m a fool with an overactive imagination who WILL be creeped out on dark winter nights when the house is making noises (and it makes plenty of noises that sound like footsteps upstairs… though there is no upstairs). It doesn’t help that I have some really vile dreams when I’m exhausted.
But you know what is even scarier? I just lifted up the planking in my shower room and the sludge is freaking gross. That will be next weekend’s project.
