Lucy realizes that her life is not really interesting in excruciating detail, so this is her homage to brevity and LOLs.

Currently, she talks English at students in Hokkaido, Japan.

A pretty silly test run of using the Gorillapod to mount my GH1 to the passenger seat. Worked well, but was boring, so I sped it up 4x, added some crazy effects, and threw some music on in the background (“Missing Link” by the Hives, purposely at a really awful bitrate). iMovie 06 evidently can’t handle 16:9, so the letterboxing got insane… but I like the results.

Just when I thought my car couldn’t get cuter, I’ve found the PILLOWTIZED version… in PINK. I am not quite ready to pay $90 for a pink pillow version of my car, but I will sure would get a miniature of it (if such a thing exists).

I showed my friend a picture of my car, and his coworker improved it about 100 times. Now it will match the floor mats!
UPDATE: I showed this to the other teachers in the office. They thought it was adorable… and a few actually thought it was a real photo instead of a Photoshop job. Good job, unnamed coworker!!

In case you weren’t sure this is more a dumping ground than a blog, here is a shopping list of things for my car (which I will get ANY DAY NOW)

  1. Ice/snow removing tools
  2. Floor mats (…yes, the link is a joke)
  3. Jack (if it doesn’t come with one)
  4. Emergency reflective signage (I think I legally must carry it on the highway?)
  5. Comprehensive maps of Hokkaido
  6. Antifreeze wiper fluid
  7. Engine oil
  8. Distilled water (if I have one of those refillable batteries… I don’t remember)
  9. Work gloves (in case I have to touch things under the hood)
  10. Air freshener
  11. Car adapter for my phone (so I can be lazy and use its built-in GPS)
  12. A Nohohon or a Flip Flap (there is a classy place for one on the passenger side dash)
  13. Tissues (in case someone is not-so-classy and makes a mess in my car)
I EVENTUALLY want a way to hook up my iPod, but I’m going to investigate the options first (one of which involves taking out the stereo and looking for aux jacks). Am I missing anything else for the winter?

Car car car? Cardy car-car! ….Car car.

Guys, I am so excited to get a car.

I rode my bike to a different school this morning, and it was pretty horrible. The way there was mostly uphill, and the steepest part of the hill also happened to be covered in ice. So I walked it… which unfortunately did not really help because I have the stamina of an elf suffering from muscular dystrophy who is hooked up to a respirator.

All the while I was thinking “two more weeks, and you’ll be driving this shit.”

I arrived at that school late, tired, and sweaty, by the way… it was very very attractive.

Anyway, I found out later in the day, after I’d gone back to my main school, that the car salesman guy is supposed to come by TOMORROW with information about financing the car purchase (buying the whole thing at once will unfortunately mean I cannot eat, heat my house, OR get gas for the car for a month… so I figure I should spread the price out). We had gone to talk with him yesterday, when he said they’d come by “Tuesday next week.” I figured that was in 9 days from Sunday, but I will certainly take it if it’s tomorrow (then, it’d only take another week until I can drive that car off the lot! Woohoo!).

So now, when I need to kill time, I start looking around for ridiculous car accessories. Unfortunately, monetary concerns and sanity limits me to only the most necessary/cheapest items (ice scrapers, Hokkaido road maps, air freshener, something to enable playing my iPod through the car stereo… PRIORITIES!).

Anyway, hope tomorrow brings some good news. I would REALLY like to stop riding a bike on ice and through sleet.

I got my Japanese driver’s license!! As in, it is actually in my wallet right now and I just need a car to drive. The dealer also put up the Duet I saw yesterday… so there it is above. Now I ask: how can a car that cute be driveable?

So we went to the dealer today to see a tiny Toyota Duet that had just come in… and find this (a 1996 Honda CR-V) for the same price. Very promising… but not as promising as a much cheaper 1997 Honda Civic on the same lot (unfortunately not listed online or I would post that instead).

The exact car I am considering getting… it is a 1999 Toyota Vitz (AKA the Echo or the Yaris… I am not sure). Looked very nice in person, but it is quite a bit more expensive than I would like.
The search continues!
