• Kelly:  a random shower thought:
• Kelly:  why do people seem more willing to save a stray dog than provide support for a homeless person, or someone in a third world country
• Lucy:  a stray dog is right in front of your eyes and you can see that they are helpless
• Lucy:  there is the idea that homeless people are homeless because it is their own fault
• Lucy:  and people in third world countries suffer from the out of side out of mind effect
• Kelly:  yes but a DOG is a DOG
• Kelly:  don't get me wrong
• Kelly:  i love my dog
• Lucy:  and dogs are man's best friends
• Kelly:  but it's not a human
• Lucy:  american culture values dogs
• Lucy:  they do not value perceived deadbeats on the streets
• Lucy:  it doesn't help that some people are ACTUALLY beggars because they can make money without doing work
• Lucy:  like this one guy on a street near campus who is always around in a wheelchair, begging for change... but his legs actually are fine and he takes fricking LUNCH BREAKS
• Lucy:  (he even upgraded to an electric wheelchair)
• Kelly:  hahahah !
